Welcome to Save Park Point
The fight for the future of Park Point is heating up. Will it become a second Canal Park or will we preserve it as a neighborhood? While we support economic development in Duluth, we oppose the sort of unchecked development that disregards the needs and values of our communities.
A developer is petitioning the city to rezone the 1000 block of Park Point between Lake Ave and Minnesota Ave so that he can build a four story hotel. He also owns half of the 900 block and wants to add a second phase of the hotel with a chain restaurant. Park Point is a neighborhood, and the residents will see only adverse effects from this sort of development. The water and sewer lines are already stressed and summer traffic creates jams a mile long. The developer lives in Superior so his quality of life will not be affected by the new hotel.
The Duluth City Planning Commission will consider the petition for rezoning over the coming months. We need as many people to join us as possible to tell the planners that while we support development in Duluth, we do not support the disruption of our neighborhoods.
The Duluth Comprehensive Plan is on our side. We need to tell the Commission to stick to it. Help us fight the commercialization of Park Point. Simply click Take Action at the top of this page.
